Iran Claims Attack on US Base in Bahrain, Amid Regional Retaliatory Strikes.
Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Manama, as Iran launched operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a significant and ongoing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an area near the headquarters of the US Navy's Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The full scale of any damage is not yet known and the American officials has yet to issue a statement.
Airspace Engagements
Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - stated they have shot down incoming projectiles in their territorial skies.
In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the region.
Iran's Declared Retaliation
Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the strikes on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Tehran's leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the leadership.
Wider Impacts
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE stated that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems responded to the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.
Officials reported debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and the death of one civilian.
The US Air Force operates from Al Dhafra Air Base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
