Pep Guardiola has admitted feeling "shame" following a confrontation with a camera operator in the wake of Manchester City's loss away to the Magpies on Saturday.

At full time, a visibly upset Guardiola stepped onto the field and had heated discussions with match official Sam Barrott and Magpies midfielder Bruno Guimarães, and also touched the headphones of the camera operator.

"I apologised," the manager remarked. "I'm humiliated, regretful, when I see it. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the cameraman. That's just me. With a thousand matches under my belt I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes."

"One thing is certain, I stand by my team and club, that’s for sure. The reason why I want to defend my team is clear – based on my career to clinch the title we need near-perfect totals, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it."

City's Position and Guardiola's Assessment

City are third and are seven behind the Gunners following their fourth loss this campaign. "Losing four games out of 12 means we must do better," Guardiola admitted. "Mathematically, it’s possible to win everything."

When questioned if this meant the quadruple was a realistic aim, Guardiola answered: "As a seasoned reporter, have you ever heard me about the quadruple in December when we won the quadruple? No."

Exchange with Bruno

Regarding his confrontation with the Newcastle player, Guardiola said: "We have known Bruno for many years and post-match, home or away, we talk in the tunnel. Our paths always cross and I always have a good relationship. I enjoy it. I’m an emotional guy, I like discussing and gesticulate."

He wouldn't mind should a rival coach spoke to his players immediately after a game. "Not if you talk with respect as I do, it's fine," he noted, before referencing Barrott. "He was part of it throughout the match, he was involved. My God, he was involved."

Controversial Decisions

City were unhappy that the officials denied a spot-kick for a Fabian Schär challenge against Foden, and doubted if Guimarães was offside on Barnes' goal the decisive strike. Subsequent images show he was level.

Next Big Match

He will manage his century in Europe versus Leverkusen this week. "That's impressive, showing we compete we have been there," he said.

City have 10 points after four games of the league phase, while Leverkusen have five.
