This winter recruitment period is typically a time of significant speculation and potential major transfers. Several high-profile stars are being linked with moves out of their present clubs. We examine some of the major names that are poised to be changing clubs in January.

A. Semenyo

Although the Black Stars' failure to reach the AFCON, which has kept the forward available, indications are a major transfer is imminent. The 25-year-old has a contract featuring a £65 million buy-out clause active for a two-week period at the start of the month. Latest reports indicate the Premier League champions are now the frontrunners for his services. M. Guéhi

The England centre-back has excel for Palace this season a summer move to Liverpool falling through. The experienced Germany goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barça following new manager Flick. Having lost his place and had an operation, a January exit seems increasingly likely. Villa were once mentioned as a potential destination, but that option currently seems unlikely. Instead, interest from Saudi Arabia and Turkey are reportedly expressing curiosity in the keeper.

Ivan Toney

This proven English striker has continued finding the net regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League might enhance his fading chances of being in the England World Cup. However, securing a transfer poses significant hurdles. Al-Ahli do not wish to part with him, and his alleged enormous weekly wages make any move complicated. Everton, Tottenham, and Manchester United have all been mentioned as admirers.

C. Gallagher

K. Yildiz

This highly-rated Turkish forward is in fine form for the Italian giants this season. With his current contract nearing its end, many Premier League clubs – such as Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Tottenham – are keeping tabs on the developments. The Turin club are desperate to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but face a race to retain one of the continent's most promising young talents.

K. Smit

This much-admired Dutch midfielder has earned comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his style of play. After impressing at the Under-19 European Championship, Smit has broken into the AZ first team. The 19-year-old is widely expected to complete a big-money move in January. Newcastle United are believed to be frontrunners, but could face stiff rivalry from the Spanish champions for a deal priced at around £22 million.
