Citizens have come together throughout the country to mark the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted offensive on 7 October 2023, as talks continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.

The incident led to more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured away to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely most fatal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has claimed over 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-run health ministry. Its statistics are considered reliable by the UN and other international bodies.

"The bloodthirsty enemies have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Tuesday.

He also promised to "accomplish all the objectives of the war: the return of all the kidnapped, the elimination of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will never again create a threat to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The Israeli government delayed formal commemorations until mid-October - after the conclusion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but events still took place around the country on Tuesday.

A remembrance service for the loved ones of people who died in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Put together by the families themselves, it was aired throughout Israeli TV networks.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was observed around the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, Israeli and Hamas delegations convened in the North African coastal city of the negotiation venue for a second day of mediated discussions to examine the provisions of the proposal.

A senior Palestinian official familiar with the negotiations said that an evening round of indirect talks commenced at 7 PM local time.

The representative stated the day's discussions ended without significant progress, because of differences over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over assurances Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not recommence combat after the initial stage of the agreement.

He added that the discussions are "difficult and have yet to produce any major advancement," but noted that mediators are making efforts to narrow the disparities between the both parties.

Essential Points in Talks

  • A permanent halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the prisoners still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Arrangements for assistance provision
  • Future management of the region

Public Sentiment

In the city's Hostages Square previously, young a woman - whose family member endured the attack on the outdoor event, where hundreds were killed and numerous more were abducted by Hamas fighters - explained: "No location seems like home now and until each abducted person come back not a single person will feel safe."

"Once we see all home once more, we can relax again. Then we can commence rebuild," she concluded.

In front of the leader's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people gathered to express their backing for the relatives of the abducted. Israel says nearly fifty continue in confinement in Gaza, twenty of whom are considered to be surviving.

Protester Atalia Regev remarked: "It's necessary do any agreement needed for the hostages to be released. But we really want promises that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that about the majority of the population want the conflict to end in as payment for the liberation of the abducted.

Palestinian Situation

At the site of the music event, grieving people assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the noise of aerial bombardments and explosions could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses said the heavy Israeli shelling carried on.

In Gaza City, attacks were documented in the morning of Tuesday in the west side district, sector and locality areas and in the east side district of the community, as well the camp to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening falls, the fear appears with it," evacuated Gaza City resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing last year, explained.

"We are afraid of the bombings. During nighttime we are resting together, embracing, particularly my smallest child who puts his head on me all night."

"Constantly we look at the news to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be finalized and that the fighting will come back to us."

Health Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City announced it had accepted the bodies of six people by the daytime, including three who died in an Israeli attack in the south part al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Nasser hospital in the southern city of that area reported additional victims had been transported. One of them was died by Israeli forces while attempting to get assistance to the southern area, medical staff said.
